A long time ago in the animal kingdom, the animals were obsessed with being beautiful, beacause back then being beautiful meant being powerful. The peacock was the most powerful animal, everyone was jealous of his vibrant feathers and silky smooth coat. The tortoise however, hadn't been so lucky, "why wasn't I born with such beautiful feathers like the peacock" he asked himself. So one early morning, he paid the fox a visit. The fox was known for fixing every problem in the kingdom, so when the tortoise told him about his problem, he laughed and quickly said " I thought your problem would be harder to fix my friend" and with that, he told the tortoise to come back the next day for a solution.

That evening, the tortoise was overjoyed and anxious for the next day, however, his wife was not happy, she tried to dissuade him from going back to the fox but he would't listen. Early the next day, the tortoise went back to see the fox. "Good morning Mr. fox" he said. "Ah! my friend, I have a solution for you!", "Go on" the tortoise said eagerly. "At mid-day today, go down to the riverbank and rub ur back on the mud, do not wash for a day then next day you will definitely have a very smooth coat". The tortoise did as he was told and he was very exited " I will finally be the most powerful animal in this kigdom" he thought to himself.

The next day, the tortoise went to the river bank to wash off the mud but noticed in the water that a hard green shell had formed on his back. That morning, the peacock had gone to wash as well and noticed the tortoise trying to wash the mud off "what is on your back friend?" he asked genuinely. "You will see soon enough" the tortoise said with a smirk on his face. However, the mud wouldn't wash off and the tortoise was stuck with the mud forever. He lived to regret wanting more than he had. And that's how the tortoise got its shell.
